Re: More wraith!

got 6 pages of wraith screencaps up on the website, all episodes I can find with wraiths in them, if there is some I missed tell me and I'll get them up, there may be a few that don't feature the wraith as the main storyline that I missed...

RE: Wraith wraith wraith

4 galleries now posted on website just for the SGA wraith, including one gallery just on the episode "Common Ground" introducing Todd the wraith. I'm supposed to be working on the orc costume but keep coming back to the wraith...maybe I need to do a little tinkering with the wraith costume, I'd like to do a more intricate treatment on the top...hmmnn...and new prosthetics

RE: Wraith

for those of you that are interested in making Stargate Atlantis wraith costumes, I have revamped my website, adding wraith image galleries by episode and using shots from a costumers perspective. I hope to get the rest of the galleries thru Season 4 up by the end of the month so I can start on season 5 as soon as it becomes available. http://www.darksidecostumes.org

Re: Here and Back Again

the work on the Moria Orc has consumed me, what little time left goes to work(fie having to fund my costume habit) I am deep in making armor( only dyed my hands blue twice now), hope to start the face casting this coming weekend so I can start playing around with prosthetics...

RE: Costume Website Up!

Finally got the costume website up, will be adding some screen cap galleries soon. Coding makes my head spin, even with cheating using a wysiwyg editor. If anyone has requests for tutorials or suggestions let me know...

It's that time of the year to get started on your Dragoncon costume!

RE: Long Time Gone

I have been remiss in updating Livejournal, have spent this cold and bleak winter ( or so it is in my part of the country) working on the new costuming website featuring Bad Guys, and trying to put all the tutorials together on how I made my costumes. Have also been assembling the materials for the Moria Orc, hope to start building it within a few weeks. Said goodbye to Stargate Atlantis, keep hearing the studio is backing out on the movie. Watching the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica, and haven't found anything to replace these favorite shows...

Re: testing!

while waiting for a new mannequin head (ebay) have been testing various mold compounds(plaster/plaster bandages and foamed gelatine) I did get a email from Smooth -On recommending certain products but pretty pricey so I'll exhaust the cheap stuff first and keep working on the sculptures before committing to their stuff...maybe for the final casting. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Re: Mask Sculpture Ver.1

I completed my first Wraith mask sculpture, pretty happy with it for my first ever sculpture but have to see how it does when I plaster mold it, still for a first attempt not bad.  It should produce a better fitting mask as I took measurements and tried to adjust the sculpture accordingly, not as good as a life cast though which I still plan to do in the future(little does my daughter know she will be the first subject but shhhhh...)

RE: Sculpture and Future Orcs

I am currently re-doing the wraith mask by doing my first(ever!) sculpture of a Wraith face so I can attempt to make a mold for the silicone which should result in a smoother more life-like ( for a Wraith) mask that fits better(I measured my face)  After reading many many  art forums and sculpture sites I'm using a oil based clay and it's going pretty good so far, taking pictures as I go.  After visiting mask making sites(some are fantastic! what talent)  I am leaning toward a 3/4's mask rather than the entire face to ensure comfort and better fit.  This is also a test run of what to use/process for the Moria Orc  mask, which seems a bit more daunting.  I am thinking having a base piece(that ends lower cheek area, upper lip as Weta showcased at one of the conventions) with perhaps a chin and separate neck prosthetics would be more comfortable.  I will also need to make "gloves" for both characters, while I can get away with makeup for the Wraith, I will need something more for the Orc while maintaining the ability to hold things, pick up etc. Of course there is always adding stuff to a pair of gloves in a pinch.  I added a Moria Orc gallery, screen caps I'm studying before beginning the Orc build which will probably be a composite of several characters.  I really like the Spikey Helmets ( which would ease the mask requirements) but having worn a helmet before it's hot and in this case obstructs vision...but I do want to try the "garbage can armor" it would be light and easy to mold, also lend itself well to spikes so...Also have on hand LOTR "Weapons and Warfare", FOTR Visual Companion and FOTR "Art Of" for some pictures and concept art and yet to peruse the special features discs on the DVD. Viva la Bad Guys!
